Human Health

Health Indicator RatesThe health of an area’s population is a significant factor in the productivity of its workforce, since healthier workers miss fewer days and are able to perform at a higher level than their less healthy counterparts. The Mountain Resources Commission (MRC) region as a whole has about 1/3 fewer physicians per 10,000 people than the state, and also has correspondingly higher rates of deaths from heart disease, strokes, and cancer. However, the region’s rate of child asthma is 32 percent less than the state’s, and the rate of infant deaths and health insurance coverage in the region is about equal to those of the state (see Children's Health).
